Residents all across Shelby County got the chance to celebrate what's great about the county from A to Z.
The Shelby County Youth and Education Nonprofit Committee worked with the Early Literacy Consortium to develop Shelby County A to Z in an effort to contribute to the county’s literacy initiatives. Recent TNReady data shows that elementary students who made a proficient score (met or exceeded expectations) increased from 23.2% in 2023 to 26.0% in 2024.
Shelby County A to Z is a beautiful reflection of the diversity and vibrancy of our community. Stakeholders from every sector helped to contribute to make this picture book happen.
Shelby County Deputy Administrator for Community Partnerships Janet Lo, Stand for Children Executive Director Cardell Orrin and Kifani Press Co-Founder April Foxx, showcase their new book collaboration, commissioned by Mayor Lee Harris to promote literacy among our littlest readers.
